Mental Health During an Internal Crisis

April 6, 2020 By Geeta

Mental Health During An International Crisis:

While the human mind always finds a way to deal with challenges that suddenly present themselves, it is also essential to remember the extraordinary importance of keeping our mental health in check during these tough times. We deserve to press pause, and refocus on our well being, and that of our loved ones.

Here are some tips that can help one process and overcome the situation:

1) While it is easy to say ‘Be Positive’, how does one put that into practice? My suggestion is to stay away from news via paper or television or media form, say 2 hours in the morning and at night. Put a limit to the daily news you take in regarding the current situation. While it is essential to stay in the loop, being over informed can put a tense and worried state.

2) Make it a time for family bonding. Most of us are stuck at home with our family, so why not use this time to support each other, draw closer and make memories. For those who are stuck home alone, make the best of the situation by using video chats with your loved one..try playing group games.

3) Acknowledge the way you’re feeling. It is completely normal to worry, and deal with your emotions with the same compassion you show others. It is okay to feel lost, but share your feelings and lessen the burden .

Blog 13/52: Family Values, Social Values

April 6, 2020 By Geeta

Blog 13/52:

Family Values, Social Values

Have you had time to revisit your personal goals and values and redefine them? Then it is time to co-create some family values with your spouse and children. It forms a good source of nourishment for your children’s mental and emotional growth. Make it a part of your family discussions, a dining table discussion perhaps. Throw some values on the table and allow your children to add and pick. Add a story around it, giving it a deeper meaning. This exercise enrolls and empowers your children and they will be super excited to experiment with them.

If ‘Kindness’ is one co-created value, help them enact it. Maybe start ‘Clothes Collection’ drive. Let your children pick their give away as you do yours. Have the clothes laundered and cleaned. Maybe your children could iron them. Gather and enroll the children from the society to do the same, donating them to a near-by home for the needy.

Or how about a ‘Plastic Collection’ drive in the society, or a ‘Cleanliness Drive’. Initiatives like these have a greater impact on Mother Earth as well. Children are creative and you will be surprised at the ideas they come out with.

What drive would you like to co-create? Would you like to share your experiences?

How does your behaviour reflect in your attitude, in your action? Is this behaviour transparent to you? Have you taken time to reflect in the way you think, act and behave? Take your time and reflect…

What are your learnings? What are some action points you wish to take, now that you recognize some patterns?

1. Sense of Responsibility vs Sense of Indiscipline
2. Humility vs Arrogance, Disrespect
3. Mutual Respect vs Shouting/Abusive Behavior

What is Your Story?

March 28, 2020 By Geeta

What is Your Story

Everyone has a story. We have all dealt with some form of self-doubt or an internal battle, while navigating our way through life. But each one of us is also a gracious example of a human being who has overcome several issues and is standing tall through it all. Over the years, coaching and interacting with many different kinds of people, I’ve realized that there is an underlying human spirit that has the courage to overcome the many inner demons that plague an individual, which is present in each one of us.

Nothing has given me more pleasure over the years than helping people become the best version of themselves, and I put all my heart and soul into every new person I coach. The icing on the cake being each coaching conversation helps me ground myself, reaffirm my learnings and opens my eyes into broadening my perspective.

Like all of us, I have a story too. I started out as a closed minded person believing in my way or the high way, and over the years life has showered me graciously with learning opportunities and I feel blessed to share my learnings with you all. I have realized that the human spirit surpasses the practical challenges of day to day life, and each one of us are equally intelligent and have a unique potential to offer something extraordinary to the world.

So let us build together a world where each person’s unique offering to this world is recognized, celebrated and heard. I would love to hear your stories in the comments below!

Ms. Geeta Ramakrishnan, ontological coach and Author: “This I assume must be a difficult decision for the PrimeMinister and I am in total agreement. COVID -19 pandemic is not to be taken lightly. Specially we have examples of countries like China, Italy and the US to learn from. This 21 day lockdown will hopefully break the exponential growth chain and help our health care resources and system to be better prepared and manage the virus outbreak much better. Yes, it will not be easy and can cause a lot of inconveniences and an economic turmoil which I can’t even fathom. I pray that all my fellow citizens respect their safety and that of all Indians and think this is a small price to pay for the sake of the safety of all our lives.”
