Monday Blog 23/52 – Procrastination

June 9, 2020 By Geeta

Monday Blog 23/52 – Procrastination:

Each one of us procrastinates at work at some time or the other. This is especially true in more successful people, thinkers and high performers. Have you wondered why? Procrastinating work and sitting under it with that smug face does give you some joy, even if momentary. Like I have to finalize this presentation in one hour, but let me watch 10 minutes of my favorite show on Netflix first. Sounds familiar. This ‘feel good’ factor is your brain’s way of handling stress. The stress caused by the presentation that needs to be finalized ASAP perhaps. What if it will not be perfect, what if my boss does not like it, what if it will make me look like a fool amongst my colleagues. So many ‘what if’ questions causing the stress.

Sometimes waiting till the nth hour and then rushing to finish the work, gives you that high. It is almost like challenging yourself…Yes, I did it in the last one hour and it is my best. Maybe so, but at the cost of what? This ‘high’ can become your lifestyle. It keeps your stress level high too, possibly leading to lifestyle diseases ranging from irritable-bowl syndrome, allergy, PCOD, diabetes, wrong cholesterol levels and cardio-vascular diseases.

The next time you think of procrastinating, you have a new way to look at what is happening behind the scene.

Blog 20/52 Stress to Zen

May 20, 2020 By Geeta

Notice how stress is the underlying cause of most problems in life from procrastination or lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension bad cholesterol, CPCOD, cardio vascular diseases and obesity. Often the issue causing stress is not as important as the harmful effects of stress itself. Stress is not all bad. It is a protective mechanism of your body. But living in stress 24/7 is not helpful. Your brain cannot differentiate between real and perceived stress and reacts by shutting down the problem solving part of the brain, which is what you need to access in the first place. Taking a pause once in a while though counter-intuitive is helpful. To re-examine your purpose and goals in life, both personal and professional. To prioritize, to say ‘no’ effectively when your cup of tea is overflowing, to give your brains a rest once in a while, to enjoy the nature around you, to be grateful for all the things in life that you have. This pause allows you to step from Stress to Zen.

Wabi-Sabi

May 19, 2020 By Geeta

Word of the week: Wabi-Sabi

This Japanese word is a world view centered on finding beauty in transience and imperfection. It is a way of living that focuses on inner happiness and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay. It teaches us to find beauty in the most uncommon and unexpected things and gestures in our day to day life.
