Hurt

June 8, 2020 By Geeta

When you feel a person has ‘hurt’ you… don’t immediately re-act.

Take a pause. Take a deep slow breath.

Look at the situation as a 3rd person

You may then see how ‘hurt’ this person is himself.
He is the Zero person.
You are his prop, a puppet.

Is it because you allowed and became easily accessible to be used as a puppet?

When you see the situation as a 3rd person, as a fly in that wall, see with empathy, see his hurt, your re-action will be different.

This gives you the ability to control how you react and how not to become the ‘Zero’ person and be a ‘Hero’ of your life.

Chakras

May 5, 2020 By Geeta

Word of the week – Chakra: Ancient Indians always regarded the body as a temple, and rightly so. There are seven chakras in the body and they are energy centers. They are located around the crown, back of the head, throat, heart, solar-plexus, navel, perineum and their location coincides with different glands in our body. The word ‘Chakra’ is derived from Sanskrit, loosely translated as ‘Circle’. The Chakras are believed to be linked to our spiritual, emotions and physical well-being, specially when well-balanced with tools like yoga, breathing and meditation.

Blog 16/52: Are Lifestyle Diseases Preventable?

April 26, 2020 By Geeta

Blog 16/52

There is a general belief that if heart diseases or diabetes or obesity runs in the family, it is genetic, and you will get it to. While the tendency may be there, it is not entirely true in the sense you can proactively take steps to avoid such lifestyle diseases.

Epigenetics says you can upgrade your DNA with some simple lifestyle changes. You can change your internal system by changing your breathing for example. Or by changing your thinking pattern into being more positive. Being positive allows your brain to calm down instead of stressing out while dealing with challenges.

The environment around you may or may-not change. The quality of air may still be bad, the commute to work may still be ridden by traffic, there may still be uncertainty and chaos at work and there will be a bag full of domestic issues awaiting you to resolve it at home.

In-spite of all of these, try taking a pause and a deep slow breath. Stress is known to increase the acidic levels within your body causing lifestyle diseases ranging from bloating and digestive issues, to arthritis, diabetes, renal conditions and respiratory issues. Deep slow breathing makes your body alkaline, which is needed to maintain an optimum body pH level for good health.

March 28, 2020 By Geeta

What is Your Story

Everyone has a story. We have all dealt with some form of self-doubt or an internal battle, while navigating our way through life. But each one of us is also a gracious example of a human being who has overcome several issues and is standing tall through it all. Over the years, coaching and interacting with many different kinds of people, I’ve realized that there is an underlying human spirit that has the courage to overcome the many inner demons that plague an individual, which is present in each one of us.

Nothing has given me more pleasure over the years than helping people become the best version of themselves, and I put all my heart and soul into every new person I coach. The icing on the cake being each coaching conversation helps me ground myself, reaffirm my learnings and opens my eyes into broadening my perspective.

Like all of us, I have a story too. I started out as a closed minded person believing in my way or the high way, and over the years life has showered me graciously with learning opportunities and I feel blessed to share my learnings with you all. I have realized that the human spirit surpasses the practical challenges of day to day life, and each one of us are equally intelligent and have a unique potential to offer something extraordinary to the world.

So let us build together a world where each person’s unique offering to this world is recognized, celebrated and heard. I would love to hear your stories in the comments below!

7 Tips to Minimize Workplace Negativity

March 17, 2020 By Geeta

My article from : The Truth One Magazine and online

Link: https://bit.ly/2vIgrei

Workplace negativity is an increasing problem in today’s times and often results in loss of confidence, control, and harmony among peers. Workplace negativity can significantly impact morale and productivity. Even if the job roles are interesting it certainly doesn’t help if one’s office is full of bad vibes and derision.

According to a survey held in the US, 83% of workers suffer from work-related stress, and it causes 120,000 deaths and results in $190 billion in healthcare costs yearly. Closer home in India, one out of five employees suffers from workplace depression. Another survey reveals that 95% of those who are suffering from stress tend to be millennials. Thus, one can infer that work-related stress is being experienced by employees across levels and not just among those in upper-middle or senior management.

To help curb this problem, here are seven ways by which you can minimize negativity in your workplace ~

Praise and recognition

The power of a few kind words or praise is remarkable and can uplift anyone’s mood and motivate them to work harder and better. One can’t always tell how the other person is feeling, but a few kind words can make anyone happy and cheerful. Managers need to take notice of the excellent work done by the employees and reward them on those.

Open communication

More often than not, ineffective communication practices in the workplace are the root cause of frustration and negativity among the employees. Instead of blowing up at a coworker, take them aside and communicate why you’re stressed or upset and discuss how to prevent it from recurring. This will enable you to distress, calm down and look at things with a fresher viewpoint.

Building a strong company culture

Every organization would have a set of core values. Both employers and employees must be aligned on these core values. This would lead to higher productivity as well as a higher motivation among employees. Senior management must be cognizant of these values and communicate the same consistency throughout the organization. Building a culture takes time but it offers substantial benefits.

Opportunities to express opinions

Factors like pay, job location, working hours, working conditions, overtime hours, dress code, etc. are essential to every individual. Changes in these areas can result in serious questions, negative responses, and concerns. To help minimize friction due to changing policies, a meeting with the manager at regular intervals can be held where everyone can voice opinions. Regular staff discussions help address any employee issues before they turn into significant problems.

Recreational facilities

According to the India Employee Survey, 22% of respondents felt that their productivity was low because of overwork and stress. A room with fun games like a pool table, chess, carrom, and even gaming consoles can be kept so that employees can enjoy and take breaks to feel rejuvenated. This will enhance and enrich employee bonding and spread positivity.

Offer more than just money

A study conducted by Princeton University in 2010 indicated that higher income increases happiness by only up to $ 75,000 per year. However, beyond that threshold, higher income doesn’t increase happiness. Various other factors come into play. At workplaces, employees value the following:

  •         New challenges to tackle
  •         Meaningful work which can make employees feel that they are making a difference
  •         Visibility for consistent performers
  •         Diversity among the workforce
  •         Creative perks such as free gym memberships, option to work from home, flexi-hours, etc.

By ensuring that these factors are incorporated, an employer can improve employee morale as well as increase employee retention.

Personalizing workspace

If employees aren’t feeling happy at work, they can be encouraged to take measures to feel better. They can spruce up their workstations with family pictures, table plants or merchandise of their favorite brands. Calming colours such as shades of blue or green can spread optimistic vibes. Employees could also be asked to keep their desks clutter-free as it alleviates stress.

Negative attitudes can have a long-lasting and adverse impact on employees and office productivity. Both as employees and employers, it is essential to take note of poor workplace attitudes and work toward turning them around.

Blog 8/52 : The Power of Breathing

February 29, 2020 By Geeta

The Power of BREATHING

Christina Zelano, a neurologist conducted experiments in breathing which confirmed that breathing stimulates areas in our brain connected to smell, memory, learning, emotion and behavior. For example, when we are stressed, our breath is shallow and we breath fast. This process actually helps us block our emotion, and helps us react instantaneously to the stress, without a thought. This is a protective mechanism of our brain. But we have made being in stress a way of life, a habit that seems normal and acceptable. We react more than act, often without analyzing the situation, leading to rash reactions which we often regret after. Here we are in a shallow breathing’ mode.

Conscious deep slow breathing mode on the other hand, makes us alert, helps strengthen our memory and learning ability , opening us to an accepting and learning brain. It helps us connect emotionally to people, and this ability to connect to others is where growth mindset takes place.

Deep slow breathing also makes our body more alkaline whereas stress makes our body more acidic. An alkaline body helps reversal of anti- inflammatory life-style diseases like Diabetes, Cardiac Disease, Alzheimer’s and Obesity, to state a few.

Blog 7/52 : Language is Generative.

February 29, 2020 By Geeta

Blog 7/52 : Language is Generative.

Language is generative. It generates a reaction in the other person based on their understanding of the words we use, the tone with which we deliver the words, along with the body language while using them. This context makes it all the more important to choose our words wisely.

For example I can say with a nasty tone and making that scrunched up face, ‘Why did I wear this tie today’? Or I can say with a smile, ‘You know what, this tie goes well with my pink shirt’… Which do you think is more acceptable way of communication, making the other person more open to your suggestion? If you want to connect with people, building trust is an important aspect.

You can have a different perspective and still agree to disagree, debate instead of argue and still make the other person feel heard. Listening is another important skill that helps. What does active listening mean? Giving your full attention, waiting for the other person to complete their sentence and not jumping to judge. The process of cleverly choosing the words along with and good listening skills becomes important tools to connect, to build trust, to by open, to be flexible and together creative new possibilities.

‘Progress is impossible without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything’. George Bernard Shaw
